Resumen

La obra crítica de Rama, sobre todo Transculturación narrativa en América Latina, sigue siendo hoy indispensable para cualquier consideración seria de la literatura de América. Gracias al interés que tenía Rama por la antropología, especialmente por las figuras del brasileño Darcy Ribeiro y el andino José María Arguedas, esta obra propone un nuevo “mapeamiento” cultural y literario del continente, que abarca espacios explorados en estudios previos de la poesía gaucha/gauchesca, el modernismo y la ciudad letrada. El encuentro más fértil que brinda Transculturación es sin duda con el texto bilingüe, en desana y portugués, titulado Antes o mundo não existia (1980) de Umusin Panlon, texto que ilumina de manera radical el concepto de autor-idad indígena.

Abstract

Rama’s critical works continue today to be indispensable to a serious consideration of the literature of America. This is particularly the case with Transulturación narrativa en América Latina. Thanks to its engagement with anthropology, especially through the figures of the Brazilian Darcy Ribeiro and the Andean José María Arguedas, this work proposes a new cultural and literary “mapping” of the continent, including domains explored in previous studies of gaucho/gauchesque poetry, modernismo, and the “lettered city”. The single most fruitful engagement in Transculturación is perhaps with the bilingual text, in Desana and Portuguese, Antes o mundo não existia (1980) by Umusin Panlon, which sheds radically new light on the notion of indigenous author-ity.
